Committees
The Chamber’s operations are organized into services and activities led by its committees, which serve as the organization’s champions in economic advisory and business advocacy. These committees are mandated to advance the interests of the business community on national issues that impact Jamaica’s socio-economic development.
The Chamber’s activities and services include networking opportunities, facilitating incoming and outgoing trade missions, connecting members with local and international sources and markets, and lobbying the government on matters affecting trade and industry, among others.
As a regional centre for trade and commerce, Kingston has long shaped the development and character of Jamaica. The factors that influenced the city’s growth remain central to its ongoing redevelopment. The committee’s primary goals are to:
Address physical and social blight
Enhance economic and social conditions in Downtown Kingston
Reinforce Kingston’s status as the nation’s capital
Strengthen physical infrastructure while promoting public and private investment
The Economic Affairs and Taxation Committee examines tax policies and economic developments, assessing their impact on various sectors. By tracking local and global economic trends, the committee helps guide JCC’s advocacy and advisory strategies to benefit its members.
The Legislation and Regulations Committee (LEGS & REGS) monitors Jamaica’s laws, regulations, and administrative processes that impact the business environment. The committee reviews parliamentary acts, provides insights on their implications, and educates JCC members on best practices and standards shaped by these regulations.
This committee is responsible for our membership growth, engagement, retention, and improving the membership value proposition. The committee ensures that all membership needs are met and that the Chamber continues to evolve, inform and support members in the constantly changing global economy.
The Trade Facilitation Committee supports the JCC’s mission to help our members be the drivers of growth and prosperity in Jamaica by influencing policy, promoting foreign direct investments and facilitating international trade. This committee has three sub-committees:
- Anti-Illicit Trade
- Customs Tariffs and Port Users
- Retailers Wholesalers and Distributors
